Portfolio of Works
Landscapes
This series of paintings includes not only the traditional idea of 'landscape', but also all things organic. Through the use of Abstract , Semi-Abstract and Impressionistic style, I want to stretch the genre to unexpected areas.
Some of these works explore the geometry that is apparent in Man's 'sculpting' the land to agricultural, architectural and, simple aesthetic use.
Death Of The Lower East Side
An emotional reaction to the relentless destruction and "development' of our urban landscape(s), in this case specifically The Lower East Side of New York City.
Also, in this collection are works from the series Building a New Babylon, basically 'meditations' on transforming our cities into thoughtful, livable spaces.
The Four Quartets
This series of paintings has been motivated by the poem "The Four Quartets" by T.S. Elliot, a work that is overflowing with vivid symbolic imagery.
In particular, the rose is featured in several passages, as well as trees and gardens, all which lend themselves to endless illustrative possibilities.
Still Life
A collection of 'Still Life' paintings, Abstract and/or Impressionistic, seeking to bring energy and movement to what is usually a staid genre. I set out to give energy, unexpected color and arrangement to these works, often using black 'structure lines' to create the feeling of the image wanting to leap beyond it's frame.
Nothing "Still" about these Still Life paintings!
Port Of Refuge/Safe Harbor
A collection that speaks to the great movements of peoples seeking safety and refuge. They flee war, disease, poverty, climate disasters and no other ends of situations that make their lives impossible.
